Missy on “Elle” Magazine’s June 2017 Cover

Missy Elliot is a musical legend who has been making hits in the industry for years. Although she began her career writing, producing, collaborating, and creating for others, her first solo cd “Supa Dupa Fly”, debuted July 15, 1997. Next month makes it 20 years since this incredible artist has taken her talents to the main stage for all the world to see. Born Melissa Arnette Elliot, also known by her stage name as Missy “Misdemeanor” Elliot, her brand has gone beyond the music industry as she has solidified herself as a fashion icon. Missy’s style has always made a statement. While trendy and very likable to her followers, its very unique, eye-catching, and unconventional. She brings a different swag and feeling to each piece she wears. Her choices speak for themselves; they are often bold and loud, grabbing your full attention, yet are very modest, as she is normally covered up and unrevealing, which greatly contrasts with her style concepts, but finds a way to make sense. This contradiction of sorts seems to describe her perfectly, as she is often described as shy, however when its time to be an artist and perform, showtime Missy shows up and shows out. You would never even know she was shy at all.

Missy’s style and associated swag stands out from other artists. She has made a name for herself for her unique music and fashion appeal and that’s why many people admire her, both fans and professionals alike. Designer and mogul Marc Jacobs said he was definitely inspired by her on this particular collection (Fall 2017) as well as in the past. He notes that on many occasions when preparing particular  pieces, and preparing for events, shows, lines, and collections, he and his crew are often working to the mid-hours of the morning, with Missy blaring in the background, inspiring them the whole while. “Missy has been a muse to Jacobs for years”, and for others as well.

Even in this particular photoshoot, the clothes appeal to her likeness, personality, music, expression, and unique fashion sense. Everything about this cover is flawless! Her make-up is amazing, her style shines through, the color scheme is perfect, the choice of jewelry is faultless, and to accentuate the whole look, the addition of the tan Kangol hat was phenomenal. It sat on her head as if it was a crown! The entire look was incredible and breath-taking. You can tell it was well thought-out and planned, while at the same time looking so effortless on her.

While she’s come along way from the oversized black, plastic bag she had when we first got introduced to her in the [I Can’t Stand] “The Rain” video, Missy is still slaying 20 years later, and making fashion statements with her impeccable style today.

We Salute You Missy!

Style Icon.
